At Springfield, we understand the importance of athletic activities and how it adds to the overall education of our students. Therefore, we’ve adopted the Community-Centered Educational Based Athletics program. The goal is to produce well-rounded citizens of high character: truly Cosmopolitans. Athletic experiences teach values such as commitment, discipline, hard work, leadership, physical fitness, and teamwork, all within a framework of academic excellence. In addition, participation contributes to our student’s physical, emotional, and social health and promotes a sense of unity and cooperation among athletes, the student body, and the larger Springfield community.
Springfield has a tradition of success in terms of competitive athletics, and winning is a realistic goal. Our teams will strive to win, but the emphasis will be placed on effort, improvement, and respect for teammates, opponents, and officials while learning to win graciously and lose with dignity. Winning is emphasized more strongly at the varsity level but never at the expense of healthy attitudes, values, and perspectives. At the sub-varsity levels, winning remains a goal, but the emphasis remains on participation, effort, and skill development.
At Riverside Middle School, we have a no-cut policy to foster a life-long interest in physical activity amongst our students. We understand that people develop physically, emotionally, and intellectually at different rates; therefore, boys or girls struggling today may grow into essential players at the high school level. Above all, we want our student-athletes to have a rewarding and enjoyable experience at all levels.
